FCI has developed 29-position, right-angle receptacle connectors for attaching Serial Attached SCSI (SAS) hard disk drives (HDDs) to processor blades, storage blades, mezzanine cards or embedded system boards in data, communications and industrial equipment.

Available in through-hole solder or surface-mount terminations, the high-speed, serial interface is designed to support differential signalling, initially at speeds of 3Gbps. The SAS receptacle accepts either SAS or SATA (Serial ATA) drives, giving the system manufacturers the option of deploying cost-effective SATA drives or higher performance SAS drives for mission-critical applications.

The raised receptacle openings are offset from the top surface of the carrier board to provide clearance for components that are mounted beneath the installed hard drive. Nominally 4.7mm clearance is provided under a 2.5-inch hard drive. The right-angle connectors also feature stamped retention clips that provide additional mechanical strength and stability after soldering. The right-angle SAS receptacle connectors are RoHS compatible.

Typical pricing ranges from $1 to $2 each in quantities of 1,000, depending on the connector configuration. Samples are available with production lead times from stock to four weeks.
