M/A-COM, a business unit of Tyco Electronics, announced a new high power X-band amplifier for use in commercial avionics, weather radar and military radar systems. The MAAPGM0079-DIE is a commercial off-the-shelf 3-stage X-band high power amp covering 7.5GHz to 10.5GHz, and is designed to produce 16W to 20W of output power.

The MAAPGM0079-DIE is designed to produce 20W over the 8GHz to 10GHz range, and 16W over the full 7.5GHz to 10.5GHz range with a typical gain of 29dB. This product requires 10V and negative supply voltages, and uses 6A under compression. It is fabricated using M/A-COM's Multi-function Self-Aligned Gate process that features a polyimide coating and no air bridges, which produces a rugged chip for high assembly yields. The MTTF is 1 million hours at a 170C junction temperature.

The MAAPGM0079-DIE amp is available today as a bare die, with a ceramic packaged version to be available in mid-2006. This amp is currently available from stock in low quantities for engineering development. Lead times on higher quantities start at 12 weeks.
