Datatronics Distribution Inc. has introduced an advanced DR359 series of surface-mount inductor/transformer that combines a unique dual-coil design with a low-profile package for miniature and handheld devices used in consumer, industrial, instrumentation, telecom and other industries.

The DR359 series devices measure 12.5mm2 with a profile of 8mm above the circuit board. Offering parallel and series functionality, the unique dual-coil design allows circuit designers to leverage the device's capability to support circuit requirements for either an inductor or transformer.

The DR359 inductor/transformer series supplies an inductance range from 0.47mH to 1,000mH. The parallel windings offer an inductance range from 0.419mH to 1,005mH (+20 percent), with a direct current resistance (DCR) from 0.00195? to 1.6600?. The series windings inductance ranges from 1.676mH to 4,020mH (+25 percent), with a DCR from 0.0078? to 6.640?. Custom devices are available.

The combination of precision coil-winding technology and high-temperature materials packaging make the DR359 suitable for applications that require high performance and high reliability. The magnetic devices operate over a temperature range of -40C to 125C and all materials meet UL94V-0 specifications for operating in harsh conditions.

With a flat-top surface, the DR359 can be used for high-speed automated pick-and-place circuit board assembly equipment. The high-temperature materials also make the DR359 devices suitable for wave soldering.

Supplied in tape-and-reel or tube packaging, the DR359 is priced from 25 cents each in production volume. Delivery is from stock to six weeks.
