Fabless semiconductor company Ample Communications Inc., whose design center in Bangalore has so far focused on verification, will now work on complete designs for next-generations ICs.

Its first full IC design is dubbed RedHawk, which Ample claims is the first two-port, 10GbE media-access controller with multiprotocol congestion management and an embedded XFI serializer/deserializer.

A second design will sample in the second quarter of 2006, and Ample has launched development of the architecture for a third. With development work here and in the U.S., Ample said it can work on three projects simultaneously. It also now offers a 24-hour test cycle for quicker deliveries.

"Our design cycles are quicker, and we have lower development costs, which we pass on to customers," said Vish Akella, chairman and CEO of Ample.

Ample is planning to expand its staff here beyond the current 50 engineers.
