Nanoradio AB announced the launch of its first generation NRX700WiFi chipset for portable electronic devices. Nanoradio reports that the NRX700, with a total die size of 20mm2, features the smallest footprint in the market. This device is also optimized for low power, with chipset power consumption specified at 130mA at 18dBm RF output, 53mA during receive mode, and 0.05mA in standby.

The NRX700 chipset is comprised of a SiGe RF transceiver chip NRX510 (with an on-chip RF PA) and a CMOS baseband-MAC chip NRX701 (with on-chip power management). The NRX700 chipset is available both as bumped die, NRX510 and NRX701, and in the NRG720 system in package, including RF filters, baluns and antenna switch.

Target applications include mobile phones, portable media devices and other battery driven handheld consumer. Evaluation kits of the NRX700 and NRG720 are now available; production quantities will be available in Q3 2006.
