TI's new Serdes devices

Texas Instruments Inc. has started to package its low-voltage differential signaling (LVDS) serializer/deserializer (Serdes) devices in a 5-by-5mm QFN.

At less than one-third the size of competing devices, the devices are intended to reduce board space in several applications, including wireless base stations, data communication backplanes and industrial and video systems.

The SN65LV1023A serializer and SN65LV1224B deserializer comprise a 10bit Serdes chipset designed to transmit and receive data over LVDS differential backplanes at an equivalent parallel word clock rate in the range from 10MHz to 66MHz. This corresponds to a throughput range of 100Mbps to 660Mbps.

The SN65LV1023A and SN65LV1224B are available in volume in the 5-by-5mm, 32-pin QFN package from TI and its authorized distributors.

The devices are also available in a 28-pin SSOP. In quantities of 1,000, pricing is $4.60 each.
