PA module tailored for WCDMA devices

RF Micro Devices Inc. (RFMD), a provider of proprietary RF chips for wireless communications applications, announced the availability of the RF5184 linear power amplifier (PA) module. This new product is designed for WCDMA wireless handheld devices, and is a dual-band product that supports Region 2 (1,850-1,910MHz) and Region 5/6 (824-849MHz).

In conjunction with the RF5198 single-band PA for Region 1 (1920-1980MHz), RFMD claims to be positioned with RF solutions for all three of the current WCDMA marketsEurope, United States and Japan.

According to Gartner research, the WCDMA market is expected to double to over 100 million handsets in 2006. To support the continued growth and evolution of this next-generation air interface standard in its regionally-specific markets, RFMD said that they will continue to expand their WCDMA PA portfolio.

Key features of RF5184 include Region 2 Pout of 28dBm with 40dBc ACLR at 5MHz, and Region 5 Pout of 28dBm with 41dBc ACLR at 5MHz. This PA module is HSDPA capable and is DC/DC converter compatible.
