Xignal Technologies AG has announced availability of evaluation kits, dubbed XT11EVAL, that support the XT11200 (12bit) and XT11400 (14bit), 40MHz ADCs. Based on continuous time delta sigma (CT ) technology, the ADCs are said to use half the power consumption of comparable pipeline alternatives, consuming 70mW while operating at 20-40MSps sample rate. They also handle 4V peak-to-peak signals even when operating from a 1.2V DC supply. The XT11400 has an SNR of 76dB and the XT11200 an SNR of 71dB.

The XT11EVAL hardware platform is based around a FIFO board with 32Ksamples worth of data cache memory that captures parallel output data from the ADC and sends it in serial form via USB to a host PC. There is also a product-specific DUT board, an XT11 product sample and the USB interface cable. The evaluation kit includes the Merlin software that lets PCs run a virtual spectrum analyzer or oscilloscope. With this tool, users can measure SNR, THD, SINAD and other key dynamic parameters, as well as inspect the time-domain performance of the ADC. The kit is powered by a single 1.2V supplywhich can be one AA batteryand communicates with a host PC over its USB 2.0 interface. The DUT board can be used independently with an external pattern analyzer.

According to the press release, Xignal's CT technology offers several benefits. Input signals, either differential or single-ended, are said to be easily coupled to the ADC through a transformer. No additional external anti-alias filters or buffer ICs are needed. Further, the board provides a choice of three different sample clock sources: an on-board reference clock, the on-chip crystal oscillator or an external user-supplied clock.

Two evaluation options are currently available: the 12bit XT11200EVAL and the 14bit XT11400EVAL. Both are priced at $995 and are available on a 3 week lead time.
