Designed for panel applications, the Slim I/O cable connector from Tyco Electronics provides power and/or signal I/O capability for short and long-reach cable. Optional passive equalization of signals is also available.

The Slim I/O connector system is capable of performing at Gigabit speeds and is specifically designed to enhance the I/O flexibility for base transmission stations and other communications applications. The Slim I/O connector supports applications at data rates up to 3.125Gbps (differential signaling) with edge rates of 100ps.

The Slim I/O connector enables the designer to incorporate hard-metric packaging practice in telecommunications and computer systems, as well as instrumentation applications with a slot pitch as narrow as 15mm, said the company. The connector complies with IEC 917 and IEC 61076-4-101. In addition, this connector system was recently designed into the OBSAI (Open Base Station Architecture Initiative) appendix "F" specification.

The Slim I/O connector system is priced at $40 for a 3-meter assembly in low quantities. Delivery is six weeks.
