Going wireless has always been the first choice in transmitting data and video. However, at the 11th Annual International IC-China Conference & Exhibition (IIC-China), AverLogic Technologies Ltd demonstrated a new way to transmit video over powerlines.

For the demonstration, AverLogic transmitted the MPEG-4 format video being played in a DVD player to a Powerline digital AV sender where data is then sent into a power plug. The Powerline digital AV receiver linked to the power plug then collects the transmitted video data from players that are located in other places.

Ultrawideband is not powerful enough in RF penetration rate and its transmission distance is limited, said the company, whereas the in-house powerline AV transmission technology allows video data stream transmitted across separate rooms without adding new cables and avoiding additional EMI interference problems.

The HomePlug AV standard has achieved transmission data rate up to 200Mbps. It combines time division multiple access and carrier sense multiple access protocols to ensure QoS and high quality video stream transmission.
