Lite-On, Yulon Nissan sign R&D agreement

Optoelectronics manufacturer Lite-On Technology Corp. and automotive parts maker Yulon Nissan Motor Co. Ltd have announced a joint agreement to develop LED-based automotive headlights. According to industry reports, Lite-On Technology and Yulon Nissan expect the project to be completed by 2008.

Taiwan's LED industry is currently focusing on using LED technology for the automotive sector, among other applications. The products are mostly incorporated in dashboard lightings, vanity lights, door lights, dome lights and heads-up displays.

Epistar Corp., a leading manufacturer of LED chips, last year received validation for car-use LEDs from a few vendors, according to President Biing-jye Lee. Lite-On Technology and Everlight Electronics Co. Ltd, both of which are Epistar customers, are reportedly also about to clinch new orders from automotive makers this year.
