SMK's D terminal connector

SMK Corp. announced the development of a small, low-profile D terminal connector intended for digital broadcast equipment, which is compliant with the Japan Electronics and Information Technology Industries Association's RC-5237 standard.

As evidenced in recent years, components are becoming thinner and smaller to meet requirements for equally-shrinking A/V equipment, including thin type TVs.

In addition to the D terminal, SMK developed a low profile type that is placed 8.5mm above the printed wiring board (PWB) surface. It is 43 percent shorter than the company's similar products.

Mounting on PWBs can be accomplished by using the provided straight type structure, which facilitates direct mounting on main PWBs for still thinner equipment design. Applications include digital broadcasting-compatible TVs, DVD recorders, digital broadcast tuners and set-top boxes for CATV.

According to SMK, their production capacity for the connector is 500,000 units per month. The product will be introduced to the market this month, and is also RoHS compliant. Pricing is at 84 cents.
