Phoenix Contact's next-generation of DIN-rail mountable surge protection devices offer a smaller footprint with greater installation flexibility for industrial and telecommunications OE power cabinets.

The VALVETRAB Compact devices measure 12mm per channel, which is the smallest footprint in the industry, according to the company. They use symmetrical plugs and bases for greater installation flexibility, whether the power wires come from the top or the bottom.

Designed to handle worldwide power system configurations, the new surge protection devices meet the technical, installation and certification standards for worldwide acceptance, allowing one surge protection solution for use in global installations. Different versions are available to address 1-, 2- or 3-phase power systems.

Other features such as 40kA (8/20) surge current handling capacity, fast response and low protection level ensure that the installation is protected from switching transients as well as the effects of lightning events, said the company. In addition, local and remote indication provides diagnostics for the status of the protection plugs.

Pricing for the VALVETRAB Compact line starts at $153.29. Devices for power systems commonly used in the U.S. are available now. Others have a two-week lead time.
