Integrated Device Technology Inc. (IDT) announced it has partnered with RadiSys to provide solutions targeted at the emerging advanced telecom computing architecture (ATCA) platform.

RadiSys has developed a daughter card featuring IDT's 75K72234 NSE with dual Network Processing Forum (NPF) look-aside (LA-1) interfaces to accompany its Promentum ATCA-7010 10Gbps packet-processing module that customers can use to help boost packet processing performance with minimal design effort.

According to the press release, the combined solution can be used as a designer's evaluation platform or as an off-the-shelf system, which can be deployed directly into an end design in next-generation networking equipment delivering high packet processing performance such as traffic aggregators, intrusion detection systems and high-bandwidth line cards.

The RadiSys Promentum ATCA-7010 is a single slot ATCA module capable of achieving up to 10Gbps throughput. The modular design of the solution enables I/O and fabric interface flexibility. The PICMG 3.0- and PICMG 3.x-compliant module includes dual Intel IXP2800 network processor units (NPUs) and a powerful memory architecture, said IDT. The IDT 75K72234 NSE offloads routing and classification lookups from the Intel NPUs, enabling the NPU to have more headroom and thereby focus on providing differentiated services, adding increased value to the end customers. Its dual LA-1 interfaces allow the NSE to be a shared resource between both Intel NPUs, providing design flexibility, reduced board space, cost and power consumption, as well as improved performance for both ingress and egress packet processing. Additionally, software support for the IDT NSE family has been fully integrated with the Intel NPU software development tools to help save customers engineering resources and enable overall savings in development and design time.

Dave Cech, director of marketing for the IDT IP co-processor division, said "ATCA platforms are gaining serious recognition for their ability to bring plug-and-play functionality to carrier-grade systems. By defining a high-availability, chassis-based platform capable of scaling to meet the performance requirements of applications requiring multi-gigabit per second performance, ATCA systems will benefit multiple business-critical applications. IDT is excited to partner with RadiSys to usher in this new era of performance in communications networks."

The RadiSys Promentum ATCA-7010 packet-processing module and daughter card featuring the IDT 75K72234 NSE are already available from RadiSys. All members of the IDT family of NSEs with LA-1 interfaces are currently available from IDT.
