ERNI has nearly doubled the current-carrying capacity of its popular ERmet power modules up to 18A by adopting a new contact material.

The ERmet 3-pin power modules are now able to handle currents of more than 18A (at 20C) per contact. At the same time, the power connectors make it possible to reduce warming at comparable amperages, and pre-mating contacts allow for hot-swap applications, said the company.

The right-angle male contacts with press-fit termination are configured for the power supply on daughtercards in combination with 2mm ERmet connectors according to IEC 61076-4-101. The ERmet power modules, which are 12mm wide, are also compatible with other 2mm and DIN41612 connectors. ERmet power modules comply with the European Union's RoHS directive.

Primarily used in telecommunications, networking and IPCs, the 2mm ERmet family of connectors is compliant with IEC 61076-4-101. These connectors can be used to transfer data at rates up to 1Gbps. The ERmet connectors are available with seven rows of contacts (five signal rows and two shield rows) or with 10 rows (eight for signals and two for shielding). Other types include standard and inverted connectors, connectors with or without shields, vertical female connectors and power connectors. They are also available with different contact lengths, and with press-fit or through-hole terminations.
