Maxwell to supply ultracap material to YEC

Ultracapacitor supplier Maxwell Technologies Inc. has agreed to supply its carbon powder-based ultracapacitor electrode material to Yeong-Long Technologies Co. Ltd (YEC).

Under the multi-year agreement, Maxwell will source the electrode material to YEC for a line of small cell ultracapacitors, as well as provide assistance in setting up global marketing and distribution. YEC maintains extensive manufacturing and marketing operations in Mainland China.

"YEC has identified some very significant opportunities in consumer and light industrial electronics for small cell ultracapacitor form factors that we don't offer, including sub 0.1- farad coin cells that are sold in million of units per month," said Richard Balanson, president and chief executive of Maxwell, in a statement.

Balanson added that Maxwell will expand electrode production capacity at its San Diego plant, and is pursuing additional outlets for its electrode material.
