LG.Philips LCD Co. Ltd is reportedly planning to setup a new 5.5G TFT LCD facility this year.

Industry reports are saying that the South Korea-based panel maker will use the new facility to manufacture 1,320 x 1,500mm substrates for widescreen notebook panels. LG.Philips will finalize its plans by midyear, with equipment set to be installed early next year. The plant's monthly capacity is expected to reach 90,000 substrates.

In related news, LG.Philips has entered a supply agreement to provide 20-, 23-, 32-, 42- and 47inch LCD TV panels to HDTV maker Syntax-Brillian Corp.

Vincent Sollitto, Syntax-Brillian chairman and CEO, said that the agreement is vital to the relationship between the two companies. "It provides a significant volume of TFT-LCD panels in 2006 to support our planned expansion of the Olevia brand worldwide, and further strengthens our relationship with the world's leading LCD panel supplier," Sollitto said.
