Flash memory supplier Spansion Inc. has inked deals with Qualcomm Inc. and ARM Ltd that help expand its offerings for the wireless market and expands its logic-on-flash line-up.

According to the press release, the company has licensed ARM's ARM7TDMI processor and the SecurCore SC100 device that allow it to integrate the ARM processor with its MirrorBit Flash memory on a single die.

Spansion says integrating strategic logic functions such as the ARM processors into MirrorBit technology will be a core foundation for its secure logic-on-flash solutions including the recently announced MirrorBit HD-SIM card chips. "We are strategically partnering with companies that can bring increased value to our secure Flash memory solutions," said Tom Eby, executive vice president and chief marketing and sales officer of Spansion.

Qualcomm, on the other hand, will see Spansion's flash memories pre-validated for select reference design platforms being developed by Qualcomm.

The companies expect validation of MirrorBit NOR and ORNAND memories to be completed in the second quarter of 2006. Once verified Spansion will be able to offer handset manufacturers compatible memory solutions allowing OEMs to streamline the development process and get phones to market faster.
