Tyco power connector for MicroTCA apps

Tyco Electronics has introduced the MINIPAK HD connector for the developing MicroTCA standard. The high-density power connector is designed to carry 280A of current and offers 72 signal contacts in a space of 65-by-27mm.

The MINIPAK HD connector delivers current density exceeding 170 amps per square inch and is designed to meet the output requirements of the Power Entry Module for the MicroTCA Standard. It also features a hot-pluggable contact design to minimize contact damage during live mating/unmating cycles.

In addition, the power connector features a flat-rock seating design for the compliant press-fit vertical receptacle. The mating right-angle plug uses solder tails designed to accommodate PCBs from 0.062-inch to 0.093-inch thick. The connectors are RoHS compliant.

Prices for the right-angle plug and vertical receptacle are $9.76 and $7.61, respectively for 1,000-piece quantities.
