Qualcomm Inc., a manufacturer of CDMA and other wireless technologies, has announced the sampling of its Mobile Station Modem (MSM) MSM7200 chipset, a solution designed to support uplink-intensive services such as VoIP, 3D multiplayer wireless gaming, and push-to-multimedia for instant sharing of high-quality video and images.

According to Qualcomm, the MSM7200 chipset supports data rates of 7.2Mbps on the downlink and up to 5.76Mbps on the uplink, faster than wireline broadband connections. It also supports the sending or receiving of email with large file attachments. As part of the convergence platform, the MSM7200 also supports third-party OSes to further merge consumer electronics features with wireless functionality.

Qualcomm CDMA Technologies president Dr. Sanjay K. Jha said, "We are excited to offer our customers the MSM7200 solution that will bring a variety of advanced and compelling multimedia, entertainment and communication technologies to the mobile handset platform."

The MSM7200 UMTS solution offers the same multimedia capabilities as the MSM7500 solution for CDMA2000 1xEV-DO networks, and is pin-, software API- and RF-compatible to enable manufacturers to enhance existing designs for faster time to market at reduced development cost.
