SMK camera module only 3mm high

SMK Corp. announced its new low-profile camera module that is targeted for use in mobile phones. According to the company, this new product has materialized the industry's highest level of shortness of 3mm.

The demand for VGA camera modules for a sub-camera application is becoming increasingly strong. So are requirements for components for smaller and thinner-designed equipment. As a response, said SMK, they developed this new low-profile camera module, which is a thinner version of its previous VGA camera module.

The new camera module allows the setting of internal register in the I²C bus control, and enables picture taking under low illumination. It can be supplied with connectors or FPCs, measures 6(W)-by-6(?)-by-3(H)mm, and features a field angle (horizontal) of 51°.

SMK's new camera module is already available for sampling, with mass production scheduled in June 2006.
