GbE transceiver supports multiple interfaces

Texas Instruments (TI) introduced a six-channel Gigabit Ethernet transceiver that provides an interface in data communications and telecommunications equipment. The TLK2226 provides a full-duplex point-to-point data transmission based on the IEEE 802.3z 1,000Mbps Ethernet specification, and is compatible with the IEEE 100Base-FX Ethernet specification. It allows designers either to set each channel's data rate through management data input/output or to have it automatically sensed and set by the TLK2226.

According to TI, the product performs the data encoding, decoding, serialization, deserialization, clock extraction and clock tolerance compensation functions for a PHY interface device. Each of the device's six synchronizable transceivers operates at up to 1.3Gbps, providing up to 7.5Gbps of aggregate data bandwidth over a copper or optical media interface. It has a power operation of less than 1.5W at 1.25Gbps, and supports RGMII, RTBI and SGMII reduced pin-count interfaces.

The TLK2226 is available in volume in a 15-by-15 mm, 196-pin, ball-pitch BGA package. Suggested resale pricing in quantities of 1,000 is $19.65 each.
