Sumpraxis LLC, a provider of offshoring services to small and mid-sized businesses, announced the opening of a wholly-owned office in Shenyang, China, that provides CAD/CAE services such as 2D-to-3D file conversion, FEA and design for manufacturers worldwide.

According to the press release, the services lower costs and reduce cycle times while also offering proximity and language benefits for manufacturers that are outsourcing production to Chinese factories. U.S.-based Sumpraxis personnel identify processes to be outsourced, put the plan in place, and interface with overseas project managers on each engagement. Work is supervised by Sumpraxis managers on-site in China.

Sumpraxis developers in China have particular expertise in SolidWorks, Pro-E, Cosmos and Catia. For companies using offshore manufacturing services, documentation can be supplied in Chinese, Japanese, Korean and/or English as needed to ensure full comprehension by the factory workers who use the drawings to build end products.

"Manufacturers have begun outsourcing low-risk mechanical engineering jobs and similar projects to overseas providers to cut costs and speed time to market, but most of that business initially went to India," said Sumpraxis CEO Joe Collard in a statement. "Bringing these services to China puts them closer to the factories that are now doing much of the manufacturing, and also makes it possible to provide the native language documentation that is necessary to ensure product quality."

Engineering services available from the Shenyang office center around repetitive, labor-intensive non-customer facing activities such as legacy 2D to 2D/3D data conversion, creation of 3D parametric models from 2D drawings, design/detailing of jigs and fixtures and generation of 2D detailed drawings. The China team will also handle platform migration, numeric code programming, finite element modeling and analysis, 3D animation and visualization, and technical documentation.
