Matsushita Electric Industrial Co. Ltd's Panasonic and digital content provider Square Enix Co. Ltd announced an agreement to co-develop a solution that will provide seamless content applications for digital consumer electronic devices.

Based on this agreement, Panasonic and Square Enix aim to implement by March 2007 a middleware "SEAD Engine" that uses Square Enix software on Panasonic's integrated platform for digital consumer electronic devices.

Due to the increasing multi-functionality and performance of digital devices, as well as advancements in networking, there is now a growing demand for sharing digital content in consumer electronic devices such as televisions, DVD recorders, portable music players, mobile phones and car navigation systems.

According to Panasonic, it expects the collaboration with Square Enix to hasten the "ubiquitous network era" where users can enjoy connectivity among various digital consumer electronic devices. Likewise, Square Enix president Yoichi Wada said, "We believe this collaboration will enable our two companies to provide new and highly accessible forms of entertainment to our customers through an integrated hardware and content usage model."
