IP and EDS provider GDA Technologies Inc. announced that iStor Networks Inc., a developer of storage networking technologies, has selected GDA's PCI Express controller core, called GPEX, to broaden iStor's ongoing iSCSI product development efforts. The GPEX is integrated into iStor products for iSCSI storage area networks.

According to GDA, GPEX is a configurable core that is optimized for link utilization, latency, reliability and silicon footprint for both ASIC and FPGA implementations. It adheres to PCI Express 1.1 specifications and is available for both ASIC and FPGA implementations. This controller core also supports endpoint, bridge, switch and root complex solutions, and includes MAC, data link and transaction layers.

GPEX supports PIPE-based PHY architecture and provides a flexible packet-oriented user logic interface. Its configurable options include number of lanes (up to 16), number of virtual channels (up to 8), maximum payload size (up to 4Kbytes), and transmit retry/receive buffer size. GPEX also provides flow control support for both directions and completely handles PCI Express ordering rules.

iStor's GigaStorATX product family enables OEMs, value added resellers and system integrators to use off-the-shelf PC server and storage ATX enclosures to build high-performance, feature-rich, power-efficient and cost-effective iSCSI RAID storage solutions.

GDA is a member of the Intel Developer Network for PCI Express Architecture, Intel Communications Alliance, PCISIG, Arapahoe Working Group and PICMG.
