Murata Electronics introduced what it touts as the worlds' smallest microwave coaxial connector. According to the press release, the advanced board connector and HSC series cable assembly provide an ultra-low profile (0.6mm height / mating height 1.2mm max) in a 2-by-2mm package. The miniature HSC series is suited for use in mobile devices including, cellular and cordless phones, PDAs, GPS, WLANs and microwave test equipment. In addition, various cable configurations and lengths are available to meet the emerging products requirements.

Further benefits include excellent VSWR characteristics, wide operating frequency (DC to 6GHz), low insertion loss and RoHS compliance, the company said. Test probes are also available to interface with the cable or connector to confirm signal integrity. A disengagement tool to remove the cable from the board-mounted connector is useful for engineers during the prototype or pre-production stages.

Murata's new coaxial cable series is offered at approximately 17 cents for the board connector (MM4829-2700) and between 75 cents and $1.50 for the cable (MXHK98) depending on the configuration.
