Elma Bustronic Corp. has launched a line of low-profile PICMG 2.16 compact packet switching backplanes.

The low-profile PICMG 2.16 backplanes are 9U long, and are horizontally mounted in a chassis. They feature pluggable connectors that are positioned in the backplane to save horizontal rack space. The pluggable 47-pin power connectors are located in the extra 3U of length, allowing the hot swapping of power supplies into the same backplane. This reduces the time, space consumption and expense of cabling, said the company.

The backplanes are compliant to the cPSB PICMG 2.16 specification and are available in various slot sizes including Star (one fabric slot) and Dual Star (two fabric slots) versions. PICMG 2.16 and standard CompactPCI backplanes are offered in a variety of sizes, configurations and options.

Pricing for the PICMG 2.16 backplanes starts at les than $400, depending on slot, volume and configuration requirements. Delivery is four to six weeks.
