Tyco's power rocker switch

Tyco Electronics has developed a normally open half-rocker switch for use in HVAC (heating, ventilation and air conditioning) furnace door applications. Known in the industry as a "tamper switch," the device is intended for use in furnaces, air cleaners, air conditioners and power control panels.

The high power switch is rated for up to 21A at 125Vac to 250Vac or 3/4-hp rated. In typical applications, the switch is used to deactivate or de-energize power to the furnace or machinery when access panels or covers are removed for maintenance or repair.

The UL-approved switch is packaged in a small nylon 6/6 UL 94V-2 housing that incorporates .250-inch, quick-connect tabs for easy connection to system wiring. The switch mechanism is rated for 6,000 cycles and features silver-tin oxide contacts. Actuation force is rated at 425g with a .345-inch actuator travel range. The switch is RoHS compliant.

High power tamper switches are priced between 47 cents and 93 cents, depending on quantity.
