New Japan Radio Co. Ltd announced the NJG1615HA8, a medium-power single-pole double-throw (SPDT) switch, which is said to feature low voltage operation, low insertion loss, high isolation, 100MHz-6GHz wideband high-frequency wave signal switching ability and a small, thin-type packaging. The product suits antennas/switches for IEEE 802.11b/g or IEEE802.11a WLAN, Bluetooth and PHS systems.

The NJG1615HA8 operates from 2.5V and can switch wideband high frequency signals from 100MHz to 6GHz. According to New Japan Radio, it can also transmit signals of 2.5GHz, 25dBm without degradation at 3V switching voltage.

Conventionally, WLAN modules that are compatible with both 2.4GHz-band IEEE802.11b/g and 5GHz-band IEEE802.11a are said to require antennas/switches for each. Because of its wideband capability, the NJG1615HA8 does not require such requirement, said the company.

The NJG1615HA8 is best suited for the data transmission of cellphones and digital still cameras.

The product's specifications include the following: an insertion loss of 0.40dB (typical) @f = 2.5GHz, PIN = 23dBm and 0.55dB (typical) @f = 5.85GHz, PIN = 20dBm; isolation at 25dB (typical) @f = 2.5GHz, PIN = 23dBm; transmission power is at P-1db = 30dBm (typical) @f = 2.5GHz, VCIL (H) = 3V; and switching current at 5A (typical).

The device is housed in a USB6-A8 package measuring 1-by-1.2-by-0.38mm. The NJG1615HA8 is currently available, and is priced at 85 cents per unit.
