Supertex Inc. unveiled its new integrated driver and pulse width modulation (PWM) fan speed controller. According to the press release, the HV7100 controller IC's wide input voltage range of 16V to 90V makes it ideal for use in the more efficient 24V and 48V systems, such as the ones used for server and telecommunication applications.
The IC features a four-bit PWM control input that interfaces directly with a microcontroller or system processor to control fan speed. It can be used as a stand-alone fan controller by connecting a thermistor circuit to the linear control pin. The HV7100 also features high-side drive, enabling the use of fans having a ground referenced tachometer signal. A simple LC filter converts the PWM output to a DC voltage for fans requiring DC drive, added the company.
"The HV7100 builds on Supertex's long history of developing innovative and cost effective high voltage power management products," said Ahmed Masood, vice president of marketing, in a statement. "This product reduces thermal management circuit complexity, improves efficiency, and minimizes parts count for fan trays and fan control modules."
The RoHS-compliant HV7100 is available in a 14-lead SO (HV7100NG-G) package. Samples are available from stock, with lead time for production quantities at 4 to 6 weeks ARO. Pricing for the HV7100NG-G is $1.68 in 1,000-unit orders.
