Power-One's new eighth-brick DC/DC converters in the company's EMS series, which include two single-output models that deliver 3.3V at 15A and 5V at 10A from an ultrawide 18V to 60V input, deliver full power at 70C with only 200lfm cooling.

Features include a line regulation of 0.3 percent, load regulation of 0.5 percent (10A model; 0.75 percent for 15A model), and maximum output ripple of 120mV p-p (10A model; 100mV p-p for 16A model). Output efficiency exceeds 90 percent.

The converters' ultra-wide 18V to 60V input range facilitates operation from 24V and 48V, eliminating the need for multiple host-system circuit-pack designs and reducing the number of brick part numbers in inventory in applications such as wireless base stations. Additional features include RoHS compliancy, input-to-output isolation of 1,500V, start-up into highly-capacitive loads and low-conducted and radiated EMI.

Interface features include remote on/off, remote output voltage sensing, and industry-standard output trim. Protection circuitry guards against over-voltage, under-voltage, over-current, and over-temperature conditions. These converters meet UL60950-1-03/CAN/CSA-C22.2 No. 60950-1, TUV EN 60950-1, and IEC 60950-1 requirements.

The EMS modules are priced at $36 each in 1,000 pieces. Samples are usually available from stock. Production quantities are typically available in six to eight weeks.
