Taiwan LED companies post strong growth last month

Taiwan LED makers posted robust sales last month, with South Epitaxy Corp. leading the line with an almost 300 percent year-on-year growth.

Reportedly chosen by Toyoda Gosei as its main chip LED supplier, South Epitaxy posted a revenue growth of 288 percent year-on-year for the month. The company plans to push its monthly capacity of AlGaAs chip LEDs to at least 300 million units this year. It also plans to increase monthly production of blue chip LEDs to 350 million units.

Meanwhile, Epistar Corp. registered a 93 percent growth for its March sales. The company disclosed that current utilization runs at more than 80 percent. Expecting to increase orders after a patent settlement with Nichia Corp., Epistar will also expand its monthly capacities for AlGaAs and blue chip LEDs to 1.2 billion units and 350 million units, respectively.

Another company showing strong growth, Arima Optoelectronics Corp. posted a year-on-year sales growth of almost 40 percent. This LED manufacturer plans to increase monthly output of AlGaAs chip LEDs to 650 million units and blue chip LEDs to 120 million units.
