DRAMeXchange trimmed down the 1Q 2006 DRAM QoQ bit growth by a percentage point to 3.8 percent to 2.096 billion 256Mbit equivalent units.

Despite Elpida's rapid DRAM sales bit growth of 63 percent in fiscal year 4Q 2005, the firm estimates that its supply bit growth should be less than 63 percent as its Q1 sales should include the accumulated inventory from last December.

Meanwhile, ProMOS succeeded to report a 7 percent QoQ production bit growth in 1Q 2006 due to its Taichung fab. International vendors like Samsung and Micron, however, show negative output bit growth while they adjusted their product mix and wafer allocation.

According to the press release from DRAMeXchange, the overall DRAM demand at spot market is not strong but the shortage is helping boost DDR prices upward. DDR2 prices continued to grow last week with DDR2 512Mbit 64Mbit x 8 533MHz having slight 1.6 percent growth to $5. Meanwhile, the same-density non major brand chips also grew by 2.5 percent to $3.69.
