The Multimedia over Coax Alliance (MoCA) announced the newest additions to its growing list of silicon vendors with the addition of STMicroelectronics (ST), Conexant Systems Inc. and BroadLight Inc.

The MoCA is an open, industry driven initiative promoting distribution of digital video and entertainment through existing coaxial cable in the home. MoCA technology provides the backbone for whole home entertainment networks of multiple wired and wireless products.

Membership in MoCA provides companies with access to MoCA's intellectual property under reasonable and non-discriminatory (RAND) licensing terms, as well as the ability to certify MoCA compliance of their designs, and therefore assure their customers of a standards-based solution. The full MAC/PHY v1.0 specification, ongoing certification waves, RAND licensing environment and membership by all the key MoCA intellectual property holders, assures any chip vendor or other entity that they will develop MoCA technology and products in a well-known and level playing field, and then be able to certify end products to show their MoCA compliance.

"The addition of the leading silicon vendors for digital entertainment strengthens the MoCA ecosystem and furthers its path as the defacto method for home networking multimedia," said Ladd Wardani, president of MoCA, in a statement. "These companies, as leading suppliers of silicon to so many products that will also use MoCA, represent crucial interoperability and potential silicon integration and cost reduction sources that the industry welcomes."
