Linear servo motor offers high precision

Nippon Pulse Motor has launched a family of direct-drive linear servo motors with a simple construction consisting of a shaft with laminated magnets and cylindrically wound coils. Designated as the Shaft Motor, these next-generation actuators offer precision positioning as well as high-, low- and constant-speed driving.

With a high resolution of 0.14nm, the Shaft Motor can be used for precision positioning, and with a durable construction it can operate in harsh environmental conditions. Key characteristics include a stroke of up to 3m, a high-speed drive of 6.5m/s, low-speed drive of 8m/second, and virtually no speed fluctuations.

The Shaft Motor features quiet operation due to the absence of friction since the only mechanical contact section is the linear guide. In addition, the coreless construction eliminates cogging and reduces overall weight. This shaft motor design also eliminates backlash.

The Shaft Motors are priced at $200 to $10,000, depending on model, winding and stroke. Delivery is one to two months depending on model.
