Panel manufacturer Chi Mei Optoelectronics Corp. (CMO) remains cautious in projecting TV panel shipments this quarter despite other makers predicting stronger demand for the period. CMO reportedly plans to control its inventory this quarter to improve its edge over the competition.

Chao-yang Ho, president of CMO, disclosed that the company's TV panel shipment will post a single-digit growth on-quarter. Other manufacturers, such as AU Optronics Corp. and Samsung Electronics Co. Ltd, however, are more optimistic, forecasting shipment growths of 20 percent to 29 percent. LG.Philips LCD Co. Ltd also expects strong TV panel shipment this year, predicting a 50 percent growth.

CMO Vice President Kuo Chen-Lung shared that they remain conservative of the outlook because the level of demand from the upcoming World Cup series is not clear. He added that manufacturers of TV receivers in Europe were overly optimistic about the market late last year, which affected the panel inventory earlier this year. Still, CMO aims to ship 10 million units in 2006.

Prices of TV and PC monitor panels, meanwhile, declined by 5 percent and 10 percent respectively, this quarter.
