The continuous price decline of display panels is mainly driven by the slow seasonal demand, revealed industry analyst WitsView.

According to a survey conducted by the company early this month, monitor panels experienced more price slump in May, followed by TV and notebook panels. Compared with WitsView's previous release, monitor panel prices are falling at an accelerating rate as demand is slow and buyers do not feel critical to secure the volume. This month, disclosed WitsView, mainstream monitor panel prices have kept falling, with 19-inch panels falling by 6.3 percent to $148, 19-inch panels to $152, and 17-inch panels to $115.

LCD TV sales
Early this year, industry observers expected the World Cup tournament to drive up LCD TV sales. However, it turns out that LCD TV sales in Europe are not as high as analysts expected. As a result, prices of large-sized TV panels continued to fall. Price of 42-inch TV panels fell by $30 to $860, only $25 higher than that of 40-inch TV panels at $835 in the first half of May. Meanwhile, price 32-inch TV panels fell by 3.2 percent to $460.

WitsView added that the price of mainstream notebook panels fell below $110, with 15.4-inch and 15-inch both at $107 and 14-inch at $105.
