Industrial chemicals specialist Techspray has introduced a new water-based cleaner line that is a safe, environmentally friendly and RoHS-compliant alternative to isopropyl alcohol (IPA) for use in PCB assembly.

IPA is the most common cleaner for this application because it is effective and relatively inexpensive, but it poses safety and regulatory challenges to manufacturers, said Techspray.

The company's new water-based cleaners are non-flammable, non-toxic and biodegradable. According to the press release, the product's strong cleaning ability, convenient packaging and mild odor make them a preferred alternative to IPA. Techspray added that its water-based SMT stencil cleaner removes all types of solder paste and uncured adhesive from screens, misprinted boards and equipment. It is also safe on stencils, squeegees and equipment surfaces.

"We have been developing products and tools in anticipation of regulatory changes. We hope to increase our value to the electronics market by offering solutions previously unavailable," said Kevin Pawlowski, Techspray senior product manager, in a statement.
