Adlink Technology Inc. has announced the new ETX-GX2 computer on module based on the ETX form factor and AMD Geode GX533 and GX466 processor. This product is a drop-in RoHS-compliant replacement for current ETX Geode GX1-based designs.

According to the company, the Geode GX2 ETX module delivers more than double the performance of its predecessor GX1 while maintaining minimal power consumption. The module's features make it suitable for fan-less and deeply embedded applications.

The ETX computer on module form factor (95-by-144mm) offers a short time-to-market solution for OEM customers, Adlink said. The ETX form factor is competitively priced for OEM projects with quantities from 500 to 50,000 pieces.

The ETX-GX2 core consists of an AMD Geode GX533 or GX466 processor and AMD Geode CS5535 companion device. The Geode GX533 has a power consumption of 1.1W while the Geode GX466 has 0.9W.

The module supports both DDR-based small-outline DIMMs (SODIMMs) and soldered memory. This ensures availability and stable pricing of SODIMMs in projects that have a long production life. Memory, either 128Mbyte or 256Mbyte, can be soldered onboard and/or can be inserted in the onboard 200-pin SODIMM socket that accepts up to 512Mbyte DDR SODIMMs.

The module incorporates a VGA controller, an EIDE controller supporting both PIO and UDMA modes, four USB ports, two serial ports, one parallel port (SPP/ECP/EPP) shared with FDD, one PS2 keyboard/mouse interface, AC97 audio interface, and power management functionality.

Also onboard are an Intel based 10/100Base-T Ethernet port, watchdog timer, an AC97 Audio Codec and support for CRT- and LVDS-based displays.

The ETX-GX2 fully supports PCI and ISA busses and embedded features such as RS-232 console redirection and CMOS EEPROM backup for BIOS settings and battery-less operation. The ETX-GX2 is a revision-controlled product aimed at applications that require a guaranteed long production life support.

Adlink's computer on module product family includes ETX modules for PCI/ISA oriented designs and ETXexpress (COM Express form factor) modules for PCI Express or PCI designs with optional legacy support through LPC.

For core module evaluation, prototype boards with ATX form factor are available. Most modules are supported by BSPs for Microsoft Windows XP Embedded, Windows CE.NET, Linux and VxWorks.

The company provides R&D support and product review for companies that are doing their own carrier board design, and offers full development and production services for those who wish to outsource their carrier boards.
