Analysys International said in its recently released report on China's desktop PC market that unit shipments of desktop PC reached 3.487 million in China in Q1 2006.

According to the China Desktop PC Market Quarterly Tracker Q1 2006 report, it posted a decrease of 3.3 percent compared to Q1 2005; however, the market value reached $2.18 billion, increasing 13.5 percent year over year.

In Q1, Lenovo, Founder and Tongfang ranked top 3 in China's desktop PC market shipments, with market share of 37.5 percent, 13.7 percent and 9.3 percent, respectively. Founder is gaining ground in the home market, while Tongfang also achieved good performance in the Internet bar market. According to the press release from Analysys, Lenovo's development space in China is falling and that this company will require localization to exploit the rural market.

Dell and HP, on the other hand, ranked the fourth and fifth, with market share of 8.3 percent and 4.2 percent, respectively.

Analysys disclosed that home users of desktop PCs increased in Q1 2006, with market demand concentrating on low-end and mid-range products. The report added that 2.9 percent of the total shipments in Q1 were priced below $374, which were sold mostly in rural areas. Prices of mainstream products continued to fall slightly in Q1, and the market profit margin was further reduced.
