40-540 PXI switching module

PXI (PCI Extensions for Instrumentation) switching module vendor Pickering Interfaces is expanding its line of relay-equipped switching modules. The company is rolling out a family it says is the world's highest-density matrix in a single-slot PXI module.

Pickering Interfaces is a sponsor member of the PXI Systems Alliance. The company has over 500 switch modules in the PXI format, which it claims is several times larger than the combined products of all other PXI vendors.

150V at 500mA switching
Pickering Interfaces' 40-540 family can be used in any PXI chassis, and is supported by the company's 60-100 LXI Modular Switching Chassis. The matrices themselves can switch signals up to 150V and 0.5A.

Each switching module supports a matrix with up to 528 crosspoint switches organized as 132 x 4 (the 40-540 model), 66 x 8 (the 40-541 model), or 33 x 16 (40-542). A fully loaded board costs about $4,775.

The modules are supported with VISA/IVI drivers for Windows98, Windows 2000, Windows NT and Windows XP.

Ruthenium reed relays
High-quality instrument-grade ruthenium reed relays are used to ensure switching performance and long service life.

Maintenance down-time is also minimized through the use of leaded relays in preference to difficult-to-service surface-mount types. Repairs can be carried out without risking damage to other relays, or having to return a module back to Pickering's factory or service center.

These modules are supported by Pickering's connector, cable, and breakout accessories.

Each module can also be purchased as a partially loaded version to reduce initial cost. In addition, modules come already configured at the requested size of matrix, so you don't need to purchase additional terminal blocks or spend time configuring and testing the matrix.
