Fujitsu Computer Products of America Inc. has announced that in Q1, which ended March 31, its mobile HDD shipments has increased for the fifteenth consecutive quarter to 5.67 million units, an increase of over 33 percent from the same quarter last year.

"Fujitsu is always striving to improve its products while advancing relationships with customers, partners and distributors," said Joel Hagberg, vice president of marketing and business development at Fujitsu, in a statement. "Through the culmination of those driving forces we have enjoyed quarter after quarter of sustained growth. 2006 is off to a great start and we're looking forward to continued success in the coming year."

In Q1, Fujitsu shipped 1.2 million enterprise HDDs, and announced the MHV2200BT, a 2.5-inch high-capacity 200Gbyte SATA HDD. According to the company, it developed the MHV2200BT to address growing demands for mobile HDDs with the performance and capacity required for external HDD products as well as high-end audio/video computing applications.

"The HDD industry continues to set new records for unit shipments, and it established a new revenue record in 2005," said John Rydning, research manager, HDDs and components, IDC. "Since 2002, Fujitsu's HDD shipment growth rate has surpassed industry growth rates resulting in steady improvement of unit and revenue share in a competitive market."
