Tut Systems launches MPEG-4 transcoder

Tut Systems Inc. announced that it will exhibit its MPEG-4 Advanced Video Codec High Definition (AVC HD) compression at the Telecommunications Industry Association's Globalcomm 2006 convention.

Today's MPEG-2 HDTV is said to be compressed to approximately 19Mbps. Tut Systems claims that service providers will see bandwidths below 10Mbps with MPEG-4 AVC HD transcoding in its Astria content processor product line.

The content processor's MPEG-4 AVC HD transcoding capability will be available for initial customer delivery at the end of the second quarter of 2006.

At the event, Tut Systems will highlight: encoding and transcoding from MPEG-2; IP forward error correction for the delivery of video over IP networks; and the Astria VSP, which will show digital simulcast applications for the conversion of IP video to digital and analog RF for delivery over FTTx and coaxial cable networks.

The Astria family of video processing platforms, which serves as the core of the company's digital headend solution, processes both analog and digital video streams from multiple satellite and local sources in a variety of formats. The content processor supports MPEG-2 and MPEG-4 AVC video compression, local ad insertion, and forward error correction, and provides real-time conditioning for distribution of video and audio over any ATM, IP or RF broadband network.

The Astria VSP provides a high density, carrier class, single chassis product for the delivery of IP video over RF broadband access networks, including coax and FTTP (fiber-to-the-premises).
