Chipnuts, SMIC jointly offer multimedia chip for cellphones

Chipnuts Technology (Shanghai) Inc. and Semiconductor Mfg International Corp. (SMIC) jointly announced that Chipnuts' C626, a multimedia chip for cellphones, has entered commercial production at SMIC.

Manufactured using SMIC's 0.18m mixed-signal process technology, C626 is Chipnuts' newest mobile multimedia SoC co-processor. It offers features such as MPEG-4 decoder and analog codec for video and audio playback and recording. The chip also included Chipnuts' proprietary MINI-MTVTM mobile karaoke feature. Chipnuts reported that the chip can play MP3 files while simultaneously supporting capture and review of pictures on cellphones.

SMIC provided customized Device Under Pad I/O design services for the C626 chip.
