ISL59448 multiplexer

Intersil Corp. introduced the ISL59448, a triple-channel 2:1 multiplexer with an integrated gain-of-2 buffer that delivers 1,600V/'s slew rate and 500MHz bandwidth. The ISL59448 is designed for monitors, projectors and KVM (keyboard, video and mouse) peripherals.

The multiplexer allows designers to switch between two different input signals, each comprised of three channels, such as RGB or YPbPr (the color space used in video electronics). The integrated buffer with a fixed gain of 2 is suitable for driving double terminated video loads. The chip also features a three-state output (HIZ), so users can connect the outputs of multiple devices together to form large matrices. The product also incorporates a power-down mode that reduces power to just 14mW.

"The ISL59448 has been designed with the industry's highest bandwidth and a slew rate that enables exceptional bandwidth even at the high levels typically associated with video signals," said Kathryn Tucker, marketing manager for Intersil's Video products group. "The device easily drives video loads, and is ideal for driving double or back-terminated loads."

Other features of the product include: 500MHz bandwidth; 12ns switching time; differential gain/phase error of 0.05 percent/0.05 and a supply current of 16mA/channel. Target applications are high-resolution monitors, projectors and the KVM market.

The ISL59448 is currently available in 24-lead QSOP packages and is priced at $2.85 each in 1,000-unit quantities.
