LSI Logic Corp. announced two new DVD recorder system processors. These DoMiNo processors (DMN-8604 and DMN-8654) are designed for the DVD recorder market, which is said to reach over 36 million units in 2007.

The DMN-8604 is designed for entry-level, single-drive and combo VCR/DVD recorders with analog TV tuners. It is said to enable a new "tunerless" single-drive DVD recorder product category, which is predicted to retail at prices below $99.

Designed for households receiving analog cable and terrestrial signals, the DMN-8654 processor enables features for dual-drive HDD/DVD recorders with analog TV tuners. This product integrates dual USB 2.0 host interfaces for the transfer of multimedia content and dual Ultra DMA 100 ATAPI interfaces for transfer between the HDD and optical disc drive. DMN-8654 integrates a serial flash memory interface and provides added copy protection with support for Video Content Protection System.

According to LSI, its DVD recorder solutions integrate MPEG-4 and DivX Pro encoding and decoding to increase the number of hours of video that can be recorded to a single optical disc. The DMN-8604/54 products also come with LSI DVFX processing technologies and YesVideo's YesDVD software for dubbing and indexing of personal video content.

The DMN-8604 is offered in 256-pin plastic quad flat pack chip packaging, while the DMN-8654 is offered in a 388-pin BGA package for backward-compatibility with the DMN-8653.
