Personal Solution PAC 3.0

MGE UPS Systems says its Personal Solution Pac 3.0 for Linux is the first uninterruptible power supply (UPS) power management solution fully based on open source code.

MGE's Personal Solution Pac 3.0 for Linux is designed for local PC and server applications. The package includes an intuitive screen that displays remaining battery backup time. This real-time indicator works in conjunction with a power consumption sensor that detects how much of the UPS is under load.

Through an intuitive GUI, the software gives users a real-time view of their on-site power quality and the ability to set-up automatic actions in case of a power emergency. Users can define the specific conditions under which the software conducts an automatic shutdown of a PC or server or sends an alert to notify users of power problems.

Personal Solution-Pac automatically detects USB or serial connections for ease in communicating with connected devices. The software avoids communication conflicts by automatically detecting available communication ports. In addition, manual controls enable administrators to customize communication configurations. For added manageability, the software can also remotely control UPS outlet receptacles through secured commands. Users, through programmable "Powershare" outlets, can assign maximum backup time to the most critical devices. During a power outage, the UPS will automatically shed non-critical devices such as ink jet printers to provide maximum battery time to the PC workstation or server.

MGE improves UPS support on Linux through the following partnerships. MGE is the only UPS vendor, according to the company, that is compatible with all the versions of Linux including Red Hat, Debian Sid/Sarge (and derived such as *Buntu), SuSE/Novell Linux and Mandriva Linux.

The intuitive Personal Solution-Pac 3.0 for Linux can be downloaded for free from MGE's Website. MGE provides the development source for compatibility with other operating systems. MGE is also the sponsor of the NUT project to provide packages for most Linux/Unix systems and ways to fine-tune any setup.
