Tzero Technologies announced that it is working with Tektronix Inc. to establish a gold standard for ultrawideband (UWB) testing. The effort between both companies, including new test methodologies and tools for WiMedia PHY validation, will ensure that commercially available UWB products meet the higher level of performance and reliability required to support wireless multimedia communications, said the press release.

The work of the two companies will be on display at the upcoming Wireless USB Developers Conference in San Jose, California next month. At the conference, Tektronix plans to demonstrate its UWB test equipment, including the 15GHz real-time TDS6154C oscilloscope using Tzero's UWB chipset as the target device under test.

Colin Shepard, vice president for performance oscilloscopes, Tektronix, said, "Establishing exacting quality and reliability standards is critical as the market for UWB wireless multimedia connectivity evolves from the technology development stage to volume production."

The TDS6154C oscilloscope from Tektronix runs a Matlab-based EVM algorithm and demonstrates EVM values of less than -30dB with a calibrated source. The 15GHz performance of the TDS6154C also provides adequate bandwidth for testing even the highest band groups in UWB that can range up to 10.6GHz in some standards, said Tektronix.
