Envivio Inc. announced its 4Caster HD3 real-time, high definition encoding system is shipping. HD3 provides video at target bit rates between 6Mbps and 12Mbps. The real-time system compresses content for immediate distribution to air or can save files to an onboard hard drive for VOD content creation. The system is suitable for use in both live and on-demand IPTV and broadcast distribution applications.

The HD3 comes with the implementation of MPEG-4 AVC/H.264 features. According to Envivio, the constant bit rate implementation maintains the steady stream rates required for efficient video delivery over IPTV networks. The system also provides capped variable bit rate encoding for multi-channel broadcast applications.

The encoding system supports Pure IP transport mechanism, which according to Envivio is becoming a popular choice for video-over IP applications. The HD3 also supports MPEG-2 Transport Stream over IP for integration with traditional infrastructures. It also comes with features such as a one rack unit form factor, remote web-based system control and compression support for 720p and 1080i broadcast content.
