Ethernet silicon improves PCIe performance

Ample Communications, a provider of Ethernet silicon for wired communications, announced its Gigabit Ethernet (GbE) silicon for PCI Express platforms.

Ample's LAN silicon is said to boost the platform's performance, enabling it to do more. Multiple ports of GbE can now be supported on the multi-core platform. According to Ample, legacy and traditional GbE silicon under identical conditions cannot keep up and overwhelms the platform's CPU. The silicon is also said to reduce the overall platform-level power requirements.

The industry's transition from legacy LANs has already started and has momentum, said Ample. It is expected that high-performance LANs will see rapid adoption and become the standard feature on PCI Express platforms.

Ample's GbE silicon is designed to be a standard feature for PCI Express platforms and is used as a LAN-on-motherboard or adapter card in the system. Ample's silicon is available for deployment. It is available for use across all PCI Express platforms.
